Banana licuado in two glasses next to a banana.

Me and my family are absolutely obsessed with banana licuados. They are just too delicious!

I tend to buy a lot of bananas. We like to add them to our avena (oatmeal) or make fried bananas.

You can also make a banana agua fresca with bananas which is perfect for the summer time.

Eventually they end up getting brown spots and that’s when they get made into a licuado.

The bananas with brown spots are exactly what you want for this recipe as they are sweeter.

What are licuados made of?

Licuados or “smoothies” are thick and refreshing beverages made by blending fruit with milk or juice.

The fruit can be frozen or fresh or a mix of the two. A non dairy milk could also be used.

Are licuados healthy?

Licuados are very healthy especially when other ingredients such as oats, hemp seeds and chia seeds are added. Licuados typically don’t need a lot of sweetener since fruit is naturally sweet.

Mexican banana smoothie ingredients

You most likely already have all the ingredients needed to make this banana licuado right now.

All you need are:

  • Ground cinnamon
  • Mexican vanilla blend
  • Milk
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Bananas

You can substitute the Mexican vanilla with vanilla extract if that’s all you have.

The sugar is optional as the bananas are naturally sweet. I however do prefer my licuado a tad bit sweeter so I use a little sugar.

Peel the bananas and break them off into pieces and add to the blender.

Then add the cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and milk.

Smoothie ingredients in a blender.

Then blend the ingredients for about a minute or until smooth.

This will make enough for four small glasses or two tall glasses.

I make this a lot for my kids and nephew so I usually serve it in four small glasses.

I like adding a bit more of ground cinnamon to the licuado after serving.

It looks pretty that way don’t you think?
