Mexican Fried Bananas

Mexican fried bananas are a delicious and easy way to use up ripe bananas before they go bad. This recipe can be ready in just 10 minutes. It’s something everyone will love. For another great banana recipe try my agua de plátano.

All you need to make this easy Mexican banana dessert is bananas, butter, ground cinnamon, sweetened condensed milk and sour cream. It’s very similar to fried plantains with cream (platanos fritos con crema).

Can bananas be fried like plantains?

Yes, they can. Just make sure the bananas are ripe but not too ripe. Otherwise the bananas will basically turn to mush once you try to fry them.

The bananas you’ll want to use for this recipe should look something like the photo below. You don’t want them to have many brown spots. That will indicate that they’re too ripe for this recipe.

How to fry bananas

Peel the bananas and cut them into slices as shown below.

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once melted and sizzling add the banana slices. Cook for three minutes.

Then turn the banana slices over and continue cooking for another three minutes.

Transfer the banana slices to a plate and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Drizzle some cream on top if desired. To make the cream just mix some sweetened condensed milk with sour cream.

The bananas are already sweet so the ground cinnamon may be enough for you. It all depends on your sweet tooth.

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tbs butter salted
