So the picture above isn’t exactly plantains with cream as you might be able to tell.

That was my husband’s plate and it actually has mayonnaise on it instead of crema.

I thought that was very strange. But it’s something he says he loved to eat as a kid in Mexico.

As far as I know he is the only person who likes it with mayonnaise.

So I made it for him although I didn’t eat it with mayonnaise lol. I just couldn’t!

How to make platanos con crema.

First you want to prepare the cream. Mix together sour cream and sweetened condensed milk until well combined.

Then put it in the refrigerator while you prepare the plantains.

Make sure you have ripe plantains for this recipe. Ripe plantains will have black spots on them.

You don’t want to use green plantains. The green ones aren’t ripe so they aren’t sweet. The green ones are good for making tostones.

1 ripe plantain

Peel and slice the plantains into smaller pieces as shown below.

Heat up some oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot add the plantain slices. Let them cook for a few minutes. Don’t move them around while they’re cooking.

Then turn the plantain slices over and continue to cook for a few more minutes or until they look like the photo below.

Transfer the platanos fritos to a paper towel lined plate to drain.

Serve the fried plantains with some of the crema (cream) drizzled over top of it (or if you’re like my husband, mayonnaise).

Then top it with some crumbled queso fresco if you wish.
