Lately I’ve been on a big smoothie kick. They’re super easy to make and very refreshing.

And that’s exactly what we need right now in this hot summer weather!

I always keep a variety of frozen fruit in my freezer.

Sometimes I make my smoothies only using frozen fruit and sometimes I do a combination of frozen and fresh fruit.

I really like how the frozen fruit keeps the smoothie cold and gives it a thicker consistency than if I used only fresh fruit.

Ingredients needed:

  • Oats (I used quick 1 minute oats)
  • Frozen strawberry
  • Banana (ripe, preferably with brown spots)
  • Chia seeds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • Honey
  • Milk

I used the quick 1 minute oats because that’s what I have in my kitchen but you can also use the old fashion oats.

I really like using chia seeds and hemp seeds in my smoothies because it’s an easy way to get more protein.

I used regular milk in this recipe but you could also use coconut milk or even almond milk.

If using coconut milk you may want to adjust the amount of honey you use as coconut milk is a bit sweeter.

How to make it

I like to blend my oats into a floury consistency first. This gives the smoothie a thicker and smoother consistency without there being pieces of oats throughout the smoothie.

Blending the oats isn’t necessary it’s just my preference. I blend them in my nutribullet before adding it to my blender.

But you could also do this in a blender as well.

Then add the strawberry, banana, chia seeds, hemp seeds, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, honey and milk to the blender as well.

Then blend until smooth and serve!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup oats I used quick 1 minute oats
  • 1 cup frozen strawberry
  • 1 banana ripe with brown spots
  • 1 tbs chia seeds
  • 1 tbs hemp seeds
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. First blend the oats into a flour consistency.

  2. Then add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Serve and enjoy.
