Molletes dulces also known as “sweet molletes” in English are an inexpensive and delicious recipe that’s popular for breakfast. They go perfectly with a hot cup of coffee. If you enjoy this recipe you’ll have to try savory molletes with pico de gallo next!
What are sweet molletes?
Sweet molletes (molletes dulces) consist of buttered and toasted sliced bolillo rolls topped with cinnamon-sugar and drizzled with sweetened condensed milk.
They are basically the Mexican version of cinnamon toast.
Where can I find bolillo bread?
I always get my bolillo at my local Kroger. If you can’t find them at Kroger I suggest you go to a nearby Mexican grocery or a “panaderia” which is a bakery. You should be able to find them there.
How to make it
Preheat the oven to 350. Slice open the bolillo roll and put it on a baking sheet. Top the bolillo halves with thin slices of butter.
Bake the buttered bolillo halves for about 5 minutes. Then remove them from the oven.
Sprinkle the bolillo halves with cinnamon-sugar.
Then drizzle the sweet bolillo bread with sweetened condensed milk. This is optional but my kids love it this way.
Now the sweet molletes are ready to be served.
