Why you’ll love this recipe
This recipe is made with simple everyday ingredients that you most likely already have stocked in your kitchen.
It’s incredibly simple and very flavorful. It can also be adapted to your liking.
My husband came home with a package of beef stew meat the other day. He didn’t buy any vegetables to go with it.
However since my kitchen is already stocked with lots of staple ingredients I knew that I could turn the stew meat into something delicious without having to make a trip to the grocery store myself.
Ingredients needed
- stew meat
- canned tomato sauce
- onion
- garlic cloves
- serrano pepper
- salt
- black pepper
- chicken bouillon
- ground cumin
- oregano
- bay leaf
- vegetable oil
- water
Is it spicy?
Yes, it is spicy due to the serrano pepper. You can leave the pepper out if you’re sensitive to spicy foods. The stew will still turn out delicious!
How to make beef stew with tomato sauce
Put the beef stew meat in a large bowl and season with salt. Mix together well to make sure all the meat is well seasoned. Set the bowl aside.

Pour the tomato sauce in a blender. Also add the piece of onion, garlic cloves, serrano pepper, black pepper, chicken bouillon, ground cumin, oregano and water. Blend until smooth and set aside.

Heat up the oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Once hot add half of the stew meat to the skillet and let cook for a few minutes or until browned.
The reason I’m doing this in batches is so that the meat won’t be crowded. If it’s crowded the meat won’t be able to brown.

Then flip the stew meat and continue to brown on the other side for a few more minutes. Once nice and browned remove the meat from the skillet and repeat these steps with the remaining half of the stew meat.

Now add all of the meat to the skillet and pour in the blended tomato sauce. Also add the bay leaf.
Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium low and cover. Let cook for about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

After the 1 hour and 40 minutes the beef stew in tomato sauce should now be tender and should be easy to shred with a fork.
It is now ready to serve! Remove the bay leaf before serving.
