Tacos de atún are something I started making one day when I was running out of options of what to make for dinner and I really didn’t feel like going to the store.
I was looking in my fridge and cabinets and saw tortillas and three cans of tuna. So canned tuna tacos it was!

Garlic cloves and onion
For adding flavor to the tuna mixture.
Chipotle peppers in adobo
These peppers will add a lovely smoked flavor as well as a little heat to the tuna tacos.
Mayonnaise and lime juice
To add a little creaminess and to balance the spiciness of the peppers.
Cilantro
Adds fresh flavor to the tacos. If you’re not a fan of cilantro, just leave it out.
Salt and black pepper
These are to taste.
Oil
For cooking the flavorful tuna mixture and taco shells.
Tacos shells
This recipe uses homemade crunchy taco shells with corn tortillas.
How to make tacos de atún
This recipe calls for 8 homemade taco shells. They’re really easy to make. All you need are corn tortillas and oil.
Now it’s time to start on the tuna filling.
Heat up the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Then add the onion and garlic and saute for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Then add the chipotles and the drained tuna and cook for a few more minutes.
Remove from heat and add the mayo and a few tablespoons of chopped cilantro. Then add the lime juice and stir well.
Spoon the tuna filling into the taco shells.
What to serve with tacos de atún?
You can serve these delicious tacos de atún alongside some fideo seco or espagueti rojo to make it a complete meal.
The tacos can be garnished with some shredded lettuce and guacamole. It’s so good!

Tacos de Atún (Tuna Tacos)
Tacos de atún are an easy, simple and delicious recipe that come together fast.
Ingredients
- 12 oz canned tuna drained
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1/4 onion diced
- 2 tbs oil plus more for frying taco shells
- 1/4 tsp black pepper ground
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 chipotles in adobo chopped
- 1 tbs mayonnaise
- 2 tbs lime juice
- 3 tbs cilantro chopped
- 8 corn tortillas
Instructions

Make the taco shells and set aside.

Heat up the 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot add the onion and garlic. Saute for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

And the chopped chipotles and the drained tuna. Stir and cook for a few more minutes.
