How to Make Homemade Strawberry Syrup
Add the frozen strawberries and sugar to a pot over medium heat. Cover the pan and let cook for about 5 minutes or until the strawberries have softened.
Next mash the softened strawberries well with a potato masher until they’re broken down. Then stir everything together and let simmer gently for 7 to 10 minutes.
Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or measuring cup, pressing gently on the strawberries to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard the pulp.
Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring it to a jar or airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use fresh strawberries?
Yes. Fresh strawberries work just as well when they’re ripe and sweet.
Can I freeze the syrup?
Yes. Freeze it in freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before using.
Do I have to strain it?
No. Straining gives you a smooth syrup, but if you prefer a thicker, fruitier topping, you can leave some or all of the strawberry pulp in.
