Easy Tuna Melt Sandwich

These easy tuna melt sandwiches are super delicious and don’t take long at all to make.

They are great for lunch or even as an easy dinner.

These sandwiches are an excellent way to use up any canned tuna you may have in your cabinets.

I just love canned tuna. It can be used in a variety of recipes.

I love that it’s cheap and lasts a long time.

Tuna doesn’t have to be boring.

It can actually be quite delicious and flavorful depending on how you make it.

How do you make tuna salad?

In order to make a tuna melt the first thing we need to do is make a simple tuna salad.

Mine has mayonnaise, celery, black pepper and tuna of course.

However other things can be added in such as chopped onion, pickle relish and mustard.

Mix that together well.

Get out two pieces of bread and butter them each on one side.

I used a whole grain bread for this but you can use the bread of your choice.

Heat up a skillet over medium heat.

Once hot put one piece of bread butter side down in the skillet.

Put two slices of cheese on the bread.

For this I like to use Sargentos sharp cheddar cheese.

However you can use the cheese of your choice.

Now add a few tablespoons of tuna on top.

I also like to add red onions to mine but this is totally optional.

I like the flavor and crunch that it adds.

Now put the other piece of bread on top butter side up.

I pressed down on the sandwich with a spatula that’s why the spatula has butter on it.

Let it cook until the bottom has browned. It will take about two minutes.

Once browned flip the sandwich and continue to cook for another two minutes or until the other side has browned.

Check often to prevent it from burning.

Repeat the above steps to make more sandwiches if desired.

You should be able to make about three sandwiches with the amount of tuna.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz canned tuna drained
  • 1 celery stick chopped
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • black pepper to taste
  • 6 slices bread whole grain
  • 6 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 5 tbs butter
  • 1/4 piece red onion (thinly sliced)optional

Instructions

  1. In a bowl mix together the tuna, celery, mayonnaise and black pepper.

  2. Butter two slices of bread on one side each.

  3. Heat up skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place one slice of bread butter side down in the skillet.

  4. Add two slices of cheese on top of the bread. Then add a few tablespoons of tuna on top and the sliced red onion if desired. Top with the other slice of bread butter side up.

  5. Let cook for about two minutes or until the bottom is browned. Then flip the sandwich and continue cooking for another two minutes or until the bottom has browned.

  6. Repeat the above instructions with the remaining slices of bread.

  7. Enjoy!
