Asian Garlic Pork Chops

If you’re looking for a delicious and easy dinner that even picky eaters will love, these Asian garlic pork chops are it. They’re tender, juicy, and coated in a sticky, garlicky sauce that’s packed with flavor—but not spicy, which is perfect for kids.

I make this recipe all the time, and it’s one of the few meals that my kids actually get excited about. And trust me—they’re picky. But something about that slightly sweet, savory sauce gets a big thumbs up from everyone at the table.

What I love most is how simple it is to put together. The pork chops marinate for a couple hours, so all the flavor soaks in while I go about my day. Then cooking them is super quick—just a few minutes in a hot pan and dinner’s almost done.

Another reason this meal is always in the rotation? I pretty much always have leftover jasmine rice in the fridge. So I just reheat it while the pork finishes simmering in the sauce, and dinner is served with hardly any effort. It’s affordable, easy, and feels like a takeout-style meal at home.

We serve it with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and chopped green onions—and every time I think I’ve made enough, there are barely any leftovers!

🧂 Ingredients Needed:

  • Bone in thin Pork chops – These cook quickly and stay juicy thanks to the marinade and searing.
  • Ground black pepper – Adds a bit of sharpness and balances the sweetness.
  • Garlic powder – Builds up the garlicky flavor in the dry seasoning.
  • Onion powder – Adds a mellow, savory background note.
  • Ground ginger – Gives the dish a subtle warmth and depth.
  • Brown sugar – Creates that sweet glaze and helps caramelize the pork beautifully.
  • Sesame oil – Adds a nutty aroma and classic flavor you get in many Asian dishes.
  • Soy sauce – Provides saltiness and umami richness to the marinade and sauce.
  • Fresh garlic – The star of the show! Adds punchy, real garlic flavor when sautéed.
  • Vegetable oil – Used for searing the pork and cooking the garlic. Neutral and reliable.
  • Chopped green onions – For a fresh, crisp garnish that adds color and a mild onion bite.
  • Sesame seeds – Optional, but they give a little crunch and visual appeal at the end.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs bone-in thin cut pork chops
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbs sesame oil
  • 6 tbs soy sauce
  • 6 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 tbs vegetable oil plus more as needed
  • chopped green onions for garnish
  • sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Mix black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground ginger in a small bowl. Season both sides of the pork chops with the seasoning. Place in a large baking tray.

  2. In another bowl, mix brown sugar, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Pour over pork chops and coat well. Cover and marinate in the fridge for 2 hours.

  3. Heat a stainless steel pan over medium. Add oil. Once the oil is hot add 3 pork chops to the pan. Sear for about 2 minutes per side or until nice and browned.

  4. Transfer the browned chops to a plate and cover with foil. Repeat with the remaining chops adding more oil as needed.

  5. If the pan is dry, add more oil. Sauté garlic for 1 minute.

  6. Pour leftover marinade into the pan. Boil and cook for about 5 minutes.

  7. Return pork chops to the pan and simmer a few minutes more.

  8. Serve with jasmine rice (leftovers work great!). Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
