The Best Gorditas Recipe

I made these gorditas so that I could stuff them with leftover carne guisada and beans. They were absolutely fantastic and were the perfect way to serve leftovers!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Maseca
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cup warm water plus 2 tbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine the Maseca, flour, salt and baking powder. Mix well.

  2. Slowly add the water while mixing with your hand. Knead for a few minutes. Then form into a ball. Cover and let rest for 30 min.

  3. Form the dough into 8 equal sized patties.

  4. Heat up a pan over medium heat. Add enough oil to coat the pan. Once hot add 2-3 patties at a time and fry on each side for 3 min.

  5. Transfer the gorditas to a paper towel lined plate. Once the gorditas have cooled but are still warm slice them open and stuff them. Serve and enjoy.
