Snickerdoodle Cookies Recipe

Snickerdoodle cookies on a baking tray.

Soft, buttery snickerdoodle cookies coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar mixture are one of my all time favorite cookies! They’re up there with homemade chocolate chip cookies being a close second!

These cookies are super soft in the center while the edges are slightly crisp. And of course they have that hint of tang from the cream of tartar. My favorite part are the edges! What about you?

What I love about this cookie is that I ALWAYS have the ingredients needed to make it on hand. They’re extremely easy to make with basic pantry ingredients and perfect for holidays or just because you have a sweet tooth like me. These are also a great cookie to make with your kids. They’ll love being able to help!

If you love soft, sweet, chewy cookies, these homemade snickerdoodles are a must try!

Why You’ll Love These Snickerdoodles

  • Soft and chewy centers with slightly crisp edges
  • Classic cinnamon-sugar coating
  • Made with simple pantry ingredients
  • Easy to prepare in under 30 minutes
  • Perfect for holidays, parties, or everyday baking

Ingredients Overview

These snickerdoodle cookies are made with simple pantry ingredients most of which you most likely already have on hand. You’ll need all-purpose flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda for the dry ingredients.

For the cookie dough, you’ll use softened salted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. The butter and sugar are creamed together for several minutes to create a light, fluffy base that helps give the cookies their soft texture.

The cookies are then rolled in a classic cinnamon-sugar mixture made with granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, which gives snickerdoodles their signature coating and warm flavor.

How to make them

First you’re going to preheat your oven to 350 F and you’re going to line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Grab a large bowl and add the flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Mix well and set aside.

Next, in a stand mixer cream together the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar for about 5 minutes uuntil it’s nice and fluffy. Then go ahead and add the egg and vanilla and continue to mix for a couple of minutes.

Then you’re going to add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and you’re going to mix just until it’s combined. Be careful not to overmix! Also be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to make sure everything is incorporated.

Now roll the dough out into 28 balls. In a small bowl combine the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar and mix well. Then roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mix until fully coated. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes. Let them cool for several minutes before enjoying!

You may need to bake these cookies in two batches as this recipe makes a lot of cookies. In that case, while one batch is baking go ahead and prepare the other baking sheet with the dough balls. Then as soon as the first batch comes out you can put in the second batch.

I love making a big batch of these cookies as they’re super easy to make!
