Hello everyone! I’m not joking when I say that today’s recipe is the best baked spaghetti I’ve ever had.
I grew up eating baked spaghetti as it was one of my moms favorite meals to make.
While her baked spaghetti is really good I made a couple of changes that I think took it up a notch.
One of these changes was swapping out ground beef for Italian sausage.
Italian sausage is the best thing that’s ever happened to my baked spaghetti.
It took a good tasting dish to amazing with just a simple change!
This baked spaghetti recipe is easy, big on flavor and is a meal the entire family will love!
This delicious meal can be on the table in just a little over an hour.
That makes it the perfect weeknight meal for busy moms like myself!
I’ve made baked spaghetti many times in the past but my husband has never raved about it until now.
That was all thanks to the Italian sausage.
Italian sausage is the way to go when making spaghetti as it has so much more flavor.
Once I tasted it I couldn’t believe I’ve been making baked spaghetti all these years with ground beef.
There’s just no comparison.
The other change was not using jarred spaghetti sauce.
I used canned San Marzano peeled tomatoes and a small can of tomato sauce.
I prefer this over using spaghetti sauce because you can flavor it the way you want to whereas the jarred spaghetti sauce is already flavored with different spices.
The only thing I added was a little Worcestershire sauce.
The sausage contains all the spices I want in the sauce.
Best Baked Spaghetti Recipe Steps
Brown the sausage over medium high heat.
I like to get to the stage where it starts to caramelize a bit.
When that happens add the chopped bell pepper diced onion and continue to cook over medium heat until the veggies are slightly softened.
Now add the tomatoes, tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
Use a spatula or wooden spoon to break up the tomatoes.
Bring it to a slight boil over medium heat then reduce heat to low and simmer for a bout 20 minutes to allow the flavors to come together.
While the sauce is simmering boil the spaghetti.
Boil it to just before al dente.
Since the spaghetti is going to bake in the oven when don’t want to overcook it and end up with mushy spaghetti.
Drain the spaghetti and add it to the sauce.
Then pour the spaghetti into a casserole dish.
Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake it in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
Let cool for a few minutes and cut into squares and serve!
What I liked best about this recipe is that my kids loved it!
It’s so important for me to make meals that my whole family likes and with two picky kids it can be hard.
So I’m definitely going to keep this recipe in rotation.

Best Baked Spaghetti Recipe Ever
This is the best baked spaghetti recipe you’ll ever try!
- 16 oz spaghetti
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 28 oz can San Marzano peeled tomatoes
- 8 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 1 green bell pepper chopped
- 1 yellow onion diced
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Once cooked add the bell pepper and onion and continue to cook until slightly softened.
Drain sausage on a paper towel lined plate. Then transfer to a pot and add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a slight boil over medium heat then reduce to low and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
While the sauce is simmering boil the pasta to just before al dente. Drain the pasta and add to the sauce.
Pour the spaghetti into a casserole dish and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
Cut into squares. Serve and enjoy!
