Creamy tomatillo salsa is an absolute favorite in my house. It’s a fresh salsa verde with avocado added for creaminess. My husband asks me for it weekly. Recently I served it with my lentil cakes and it was amazing! This salsa elevates everything it touches. I’m telling you it’s a must try!

Ingredients for Fresh Salsa Verde
This creamy tomatillo salsa comes together with just a few simple ingredients. The combination of fresh tomatillos, avocado, cilantro, and pickled jalapeños creates a salsa that’s tangy, creamy, and full of flavor.
Tomatillos
Tomatillos give this salsa verde its bright, slightly tangy flavor. Be sure to remove the papery husks and rinse them well before using.
White Onion
A small amount of white onion adds a little sharpness and depth to the salsa.
Garlic
Garlic gives the salsa a savory flavor that balances the acidity of the tomatillos.
Pickled Jalapeños
Pickled jalapeños add heat and a tangy kick that works really well with the tomatillos.
Pickled Jalapeño Juice
The brine from the jalapeños adds extra flavor and acidity that brightens the salsa.
Cilantro
Cilantro adds freshness and that classic salsa verde flavor.
Avocado
Avocado makes this salsa creamy and smooth while mellowing the tanginess of the tomatillos.
Chicken Bouillon
Chicken bouillon adds a savory depth of flavor that makes the salsa even more delicious.
How to Make Creamy Tomatillo Salsa
Just add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Taste for salt and add some if needed. That’s it super easy! I like to place the pit from the avocado in the bowl with the salsa. It is said to help keep it from browning.
