Bistec a La Mexicana (Mexican Style Steak)

This bistec a la mexicana is a super easy and delicious recipe that is perfect on a busy weeknight.

I used ribeye steak for this recipe.

It is on the expensive side which is why we don’t have it very often.

But it’s ok to splurge every now and then right?

When we’re trying to reduce our spending we often enjoy papas a la Mexicana (Mexican style potatoes) instead which are also insanely good!

Ingredients for bistec a la mexicana

  • Ribeye steak
  • Onion (sliced)
  • Jalapeno (sliced)
  • Minced garlic
  • Roma tomatoes (chopped)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vegetable oil

The first thing we need to do is slice the veggies.

Then slice the steak into thin strips as shown below.

Season it with salt and pepper.

Heat up oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

Once hot add the steak in batches so as to not crowd the skillet.

Cook for one minute.

Then flip the pieces and cook for another minute.

Transfer to a plate.

Repeat the above steps with the other batch of meat.

Now heat up some more oil in the same skillet over medium heat.

Add the onion and jalapeno.

Cook for 5 minutes.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add the garlic and tomatoes.

Cook for 5 minutes or until the tomatoes have softened.

Add the meat back to the skillet and stir.

Continue to cook for another 5 minutes.

Now your bistec a la mexicana is ready to be served.

I like to serve mine with refried pinto beans and warm corn tortillas.

This is one of my husbands favorite meals that I cook.

And I have to agree with him.

It comes together pretty fast and it’s so delicious.

I love to sop up the yummy juice from the steak and veggies with tortillas.

Bistec a la Mexicana

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb ribeye steak thinly sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 jalapenos sliced
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 6 roma tomatoes chopped
  • salt
  • pepper
  • vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Slice and chop the veggies. Then thinly slice the steak. Season the steak with salt and pepper.

  2. Heat up 2 tbs oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

  3. When the oil is hot add the steak in batches so as to not crowd the skillet. Cook the steak for one minute on each side. Transfer the steak to a plate.

  4. Add the other batch of steak to the skillet and cook for one minute on each side. Transfer the steak to a plate.

  5. Heat up another tbs of oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and jalapeno. Saute for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

  6. Now add the garlic and tomatoes. Saute for another 5 minutes or until the tomatoes have softened.

  7. Next add the steak back to skillet. Stir. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes so the flavors can combine.

  8. Remove from heat and let rest before serving as it is hot.
