Homemade Chex Mix Recipe

Homemade chex mix is always a crowd pleaser! It’s one of my favorite snacks ever. Homemade is the way to go. The store bought version just can’t compare. Give it a try!

I first tried homemade chex mix in 8th grade. A friend of mine had brought it to school. I was immediately obsessed with it. I had only ever had the store bought version of chex mix.

If you like store bought chex mix I highly suggest you give this one a try! You’ll never buy store bought again.

My friend gave me the recipe which is on the back of the Chex mix box. However I changed a few things. I added goldfish and I like to add more than the amount of seasonings that the recipe on the back of the box suggests. Trust me it comes out a lot more flavorful this way!

Ingredients needed

  • corn chex
  • rice chex
  • cheerios
  • goldfish
  • pretzels
  • peanuts
  • butter
  • worcestershire sauce
  • seasoned salt
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder

How to make it

Preheat the oven to 250.

I like to have a large bowl of all the chex mix ingredients ready to go minus the worcestershire sauce, seasonings and butter.

I also like to measure out all of the seasonings. It’s easier this way having everything already measured out. Trust me.

worcestershire sauce and seasonings

Then melt 1 stick of butter in the microwave. Pour the butter on the pan.

Spread out the seasonings on the sheet pan using a spoon.

Pour the chex mix onto the pan. I like to pour in half first and give it a good stir then I add in the rest and stir again to make sure everything is well coated with the seasonings.

Now that everything is well coated in the seasonings bake in the oven for 1 hour. Take it out every 15 minutes to stir then return to the oven.

chex mix before baking

After baking let it cool before eating.

Once it has cooled save it in a ziploc bag or a container with a tight fitting lid. Everyone in my house loves chex mix so it only lasts for a couple of days.
