Dutch Oven no Knead Bread

This Dutch oven no knead bread recipe is my latest obsession. It’s seriously delicious and incredibly easy to make. If you’re someone who thinks homemade bread is intimidating, this one will change your mind for good!

Dutch oven no knead bread

It only takes a few simple pantry staples and a Dutch oven to make a beautiful, golden loaf with a crispy crust and chewy interior. It tastes like it came fresh from a bakery, but without that expensive bakery price tag. My husband isn’t even that into bread, but he absolutely devoured this.

What I really love about this bread is how versatile it is. It’s perfect all on its own with a pat of butter or dipped in olive oil, but it also pairs insanely well with soups. That crisp crust and chewy bite make it ideal for soaking up rich, flavorful broths. Some of my favorite soups to serve with this bread are homemade tomato soup, French onion soup and black bean soup. It takes any cozy meal to the next level.

And don’t worry, there’s absolutely no kneading involved. You mix the dough, let it rise, shape it gently, and bake it in a hot Dutch oven. That’s it. No fancy equipment or techniques required. The result is a rustic artisan-style loaf that looks as good as it tastes.

So if you’ve been wanting to try homemade bread but didn’t know where to start, this is the recipe for you. Once you see how easy and rewarding it is, you’ll want to make it again and again.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and instant yeast. Slowly add the warm water and stir just until everything is moistened. The dough will be sticky.

  2. Cover the bowl and let it rise at room temperature for 2–3 hours.

  3. Place your clean Dutch oven (with the lid) in the oven and preheat to 450°F. Once it reaches temperature, let it continue heating for another 15 minutes.

  4. Lightly flour your countertop. Plop the dough onto the floured area and sprinkle a bit more flour on top. Using two spatulas, gently shape the dough into a rough ball.

  5. Carefully remove the Dutch oven using oven mitts. Line it with parchment paper and gently place the dough inside using the spatulas.

  6. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for another 5–10 minutes until the crust is golden and crispy.

  7. Carefully remove the dutch oven from the oven. Then remove the loaf and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Enjoy it warm with butter or serve alongside your favorite soup!
