I am so in love with these beans. They are a simple meal but they do NOT lack in flavor.

My favorite way to enjoy them is over white rice. I like how the rice soaks up the delicious broth from the beans.

These are the beans I used. They are already seasoned but you can used ones that aren’t already seasoned.

I usually prefer to use dried beans as they are cheaper but you know how it goes when you work and have kids. Sometimes you just don’t have time and you need something quick! And there’s no shame in that!

More Delicious Bean Recipes

What gives the beans in this recipe so much flavor is sofrito.

Sofrito is very popular in Latin American cooking. It is used as a flavoring base for many popular recipes such as arroz con gandules, stews and many others.

How to Make the Best Canned Black Beans

Heat up some oil in a pot over medium heat. Once the oil is hot add the sofrito and let it saute for a couple of minutes.

Then add the beans to the pot. Do not drain them. Bring the beans to a boil over medium heat then reduce to medium low and simmer for about 15 minutes.

If you want your beans to be more brothy you can add a little water.

Simmering the beans is really important as it softens the beans and allows the flavors to come together.

You can salt the beans if you feel it’s needed. Whether or not they need salt will depend on the type of canned beans you used.

Since these ones were seasoned I didn’t feel they needed much more salt. If you buy unseasoned beans they will probably need a little salt.

Now you can eat these beans as is but my favorite way is over white rice. I encourage you to try it!
