Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour plus more as needed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5 tbs butter salted
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Add the butter and water to a microwave-safe dish. Heat until the butter is completely melted and the water is hot.

  2. Add the flour and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix briefly to combine.

  3. With the mixer running on medium speed, slowly pour in the hot butter and water mixture.

  4. Continue mixing for about 8 minutes, or until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

  5. If the dough is extremely sticky, add additional flour 1 tablespoon at a time. The finished dough may still feel slightly sticky.

  6. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  7. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a smooth ball. Keep the dough balls covered while you work.

  8. Lightly flour your work surface and roll each dough ball into a large, thin circle.

  9. Heat a large dry skillet or comal over medium heat.

  10. Cook each tortilla for about 1 minute per side, or until bubbles form and golden-brown spots appear.

  11. Transfer the cooked tortillas to a clean kitchen towel and keep them wrapped until ready to serve.

  12. Serve warm and enjoy.
