ham hock

small white onion
diced

brown sugar
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Bring the ham hock and water to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low.
Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Add beans and onion to pot.
Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to medium low.
cook for about 3-4 hours or until beans are soft.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Add brown sugar and cook an additional 15 min.
Serve over rice or as is.
