Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 3 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbs granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 tbs butter unsalted
  • 1 1/2 cup water room temperature
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil for greasing

Instructions

  1. Add the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix to combine.

  2. With the mixer running, slowly add the butter. Then slowly pour in the water.

  3. Mix on medium speed for about 10 minutes until a smooth dough forms.

  4. Shape the dough into a ball and rub about a 1/2 tablespoon of oil all over it.

  5. Place in a bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.

  6. Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.

  7. Shape into a large rectangle, then roll it up tightly into a loaf (seam side down).

  8. Transfer to a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise for another hour.

  9. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 35–40 minutes.

  10. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil halfway through baking.

  11. Remove from the pan and let cool completely before slicing.
