This toasted cinnamon spice oatmeal is a delicious and easy way to spice up your breakfast routine.
Melt the butter in a pot over medium low heat.
Once the butter has melted add the cloves to the pot and toast for a few minutes or until the whole cloves start to release their aroma.
Add the oats and toast them for 5-7 minutes. Make sure to stir them frequently to prevent burning.
Add the ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and water. Stir. Bring to a boil then reduce heat back to medium low and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until most of the water has evaporated.
Add the vanilla extract and stir. Remove from heat.
Remove the whole cloves before serving and enjoy.
If you want a very chewy oatmeal add just 2 cups of water. For a less chewy oatmeal add 3 cups.
