Toasted Cinnamon Spice Oatmeal

This toasted cinnamon spice oatmeal is a delicious and easy way to spice up your breakfast routine.

  • 2 tbs butter
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 cups water


  1. Melt the butter in a pot over medium low heat.

  2. Once the butter has melted add the cloves to the pot and toast for a few minutes or until the whole cloves start to release their aroma.

  3. Add the oats and toast them for 5-7 minutes. Make sure to stir them frequently to prevent burning.

  4. Add the ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and water. Stir. Bring to a boil then reduce heat back to medium low and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until most of the water has evaporated.

  5. Add the vanilla extract and stir. Remove from heat.

  6. Remove the whole cloves before serving and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

If you want a very chewy oatmeal add just 2 cups of water. For a less chewy oatmeal add 3 cups.
