Agua de Horchata

A sweet Mexican drink made of rice that is perfect on a hot summer day!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of rice
  • 2 sticks of Mexican cinnamon broken into pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups of white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mexican vanilla I use molina
  • 10 cups water
  • 3 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Combine rice, cinnamon, and 6 cups of water in a container and let sit over night
  2. In batches blend rice, cinnamon and water for 2-3 min
  3. Strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Use a spatula to push the liquid through the strainer. Or strain through a cheesecloth
  4. Stir in vanilla and sugar and mix well
  5. Add the remaining 4 cups of water and 3 cups of milk and stir
  6. Store in refrigerator until cool. Best served with ice.
