This delicious and creamy arroz con leche Mexicano is perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup long grain white rice washed
  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 cups 2% milk
  • 1 tbs Mexican vanilla

Instructions

  1. Add the water to a pot and bring to a boil.

  2. Add the cinnamon stick to the water. Remove the pot from heat and cover with the lid.

  3. Let the cinnamon steep for 15 minutes.

  4. Then remove the cinnamon stick from the water. Add the washed rice to the pot and bring to a boil.

  5. Reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for 20 minutes.

  6. Add the evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk to the pot and stir.

  7. Warm up the 2% milk in the microwave until it's at least room temperature. Then add it to the pot as well and stir.

  8. Cover the pot and cook on medium-low heat for 20 minutes while stirring occasionally.

  9. When done remove the pot from heat and add the vanilla and stir. Let it sit for about 10 minutes or so as it will be hot.

  10. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • Add a couple of whole cloves with the cinnamon stick for extra flavor.
  • If you don’t have sweetened condensed milk substitute with sugar.
  • Warm up the regular milk in the microwave this helps the rice cook evenly.
  • Stir the rice occasionally after adding the three milks to prevent burning.
