How to Make Sweet Fried Plantains

These sweet fried plantains are something that I’ve recently started eating regularly. I’m not sure what took me so long to like them because they are so good!

I used to only buy them when making mole now I buy them every week. My husband on the other hand has always loved them.

Finally, I decided to actually give them a chance and now I’m obsessed with them too.

plantains are cheap, delicious, and very easy to make at home.

I prefer to eat plantains when they are ripe. They will be black and have a natural sweetness.

Green or unripe plantains can also be fried but they will have a totally different flavor than ripe ones. Fried green plantains are called tostones.

Making fried plantains is super easy and quick. They make for a wonderfully cheap and delicious snack.

I can’t get enough of them! I just wished my kids liked them. They are so incredibly picky and I really hope they grow out of it soon.

The photo below shows the steps to make sweet fried plantains. As you can see it is very easy and quick.

Plantains are cheap, delicious and incredibly easy to prepare.

Plantains cannot be peeled like a banana. They are a lot tougher so you have to use a knife.

I cut the top off then slice the peel lengthwise. Then I’ll try to use my fingers to pull the peel off.

Just be careful not to hurt your fingers in the process. I have done this and it really hurts when the peel cuts you under the finger nails!

I like using my cast iron skillet to fry them but a regular skillet will work just as well.

The plantains will only need to cook for a couple of minutes on each side or until they start to caramelize. After they are done you can drizzle condensed milk over them which is how my husband likes them. However I prefer mine plain they already have a natural sweetness to them if they are ripe.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do. You may also like my other plantain recipe as well.
