Gorditas with salsa verde and cheese are a super simple but delicious snack!
Hi! I’m back just like I said I would be. Today’s recipe is for gorditas with salsa verde and cheese. It’s such a simple recipe but it is so good I figured I’d post it anyways.
You may remember I posted a recipe of gorditas veracruzanas with refried beans almost a week ago. I hope you liked them because today’s recipe is very similar. Instead of refried beans as the filling today we will be using salsa verde. These are actually my favorite kind of gorditas.
You may also know gorditas veracruzanas as picadas, or pellizcadas. My husband who is from Veracruz, Mexico tells me they’re the same thing. So I just refer to them as gorditas.
Making gorditas is super simple. You will need a tortilla press. You can check out my post on gorditas veracruzanas with refried beans for more details on how to make them.
I cooked the gorditas a bit longer than I did the other ones. I really love the flavor of them when they get just a little charred. Some people also prefer to fry theirs. I don’t because fry these because I eat enough fried foods and I like them just fine this way. It’s totally up to you.
Tomorrow I will be back with the recipe for salsa verde. You won’t want to miss it! It’s really good! See ya tomorrow!
Gorditas with Salsa Verde and Cheese
- salsa verde
- mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups maseca
- 1 1/2 cup water
combine maseca and water and mix with hands until thoroughly combined.
Form 10 balls of equal size with the masa dough.
Cover the inside of the tortillas press with two squares or circles of plastc or plastic wrap or wax paper.
Press the dough in the tortilla press it should be just a bit thicker than a tortilla.
Cook the gorditas either on a skillet over medium heat on both sides for a few minutes or by frying on both sides until golden brown.
Let the gorditas cool slightly. Then pinch the edges of the gorditas so that they are raised.
Fill gorditas with salsa verde.
Top with cheese and heat in microwave until cheese melts.
